99.99% Pure Gallium Metal in 50 gram quantity. Used widely in the semiconductor industry, this metal is fun to experiment with and is non-toxic, unlike Mercury. Gallium is a soft, silvery metallic poor metal; elemental gallium is a brittle solid at low temperatures. As it liquefies slightly above room temperature, it will melt in the hand. We ship Gallium packed in plastic vials.
Gallium is Atomic Element No. 31 on the periodic table of elements. One of gallium's most interesting properties is it's low melting point, just 86 degrees Fahrenheit. It remains a liquid over a wider temperature range than any other element, only coming to a boil at 4357 degrees Fahrenheit! Once a liquid, gallium holds thermal energy very well and is slow to return to a solid state after room temperature has dropped below 86 degrees. The wide liquid state range of gallium makes it a good medium for high temperature thermometers. Other uses include mirror coatings and as a component of low melting point alloys and solders.
